Caffeinate Your Conversation Partner to Win an Argument #interview

Posted on August 25th, 2013

Whether you’re trying to convince a friend where to grab lunch, or trying to sway your boss to your side in a meeting, your odds may be better if they have a little caffeine in their system.P

Researchers in Australia ran an experiment in which participants were presented with two opposing sides of several arguments. One group was given a dose of caffeine between hearing the second of the two messages, while a control group only took a placebo. Interestingly, the experimental group was more easily swayed, on average, by the second set of arguments.P

A cup of coffee isn’t going to guarantee a raise from your boss, but you can still try to time your interactions based on when your conversation partner last visited the break room for a cup of coffee. It might not make a huge difference, but it just might be enough to push them over the edge if you present your ideas well.P

Why Facebook doesn't work for developing an online presense

Posted on May 31st, 2013

We all have it and it is a great product, if at times a bit of a procrastination tool.

The main reason for not using Facebook as a tool for breaking into tech, stems from the feed structure. If our goal is to be exposed to the most relevant content and thought leaders in an industry than FB just can't cut it. I want to read stories and get advice on business development strategy. But with FB I can't curate those stories as easily especially if I want to stay in touch with friends. The fact is FB at is core is a place to peek in on your friends and family's lives. As much as a love seeing my nieces and nephews grow up, looking at their pictures is not going to help me further my career. With twitter and LinkedIn I have complete control over the content I see.

While the argument could go that you can follow people and companies on FB, those stories are mixed in with pictures of my friends engagement party - essentially rendering FB inefficient for curating a news source.

This isn't to say we shouldn't use the different mediums to vocalize our opinions and drive traffic to the projects we are working on. As with any business the more we immerse ourselves in a new network and community, the more our network grows and the more we turn business acquaintance into friends.

Bottom line, don't expect your high school friend taking a year off to travel south east Asia to deliver you relevant content about the tech and startup ecosystem. But who know your post just might inspire your cousin to quite his job at Jefferies and start something revolutionary.

Welcome to Postach.io!

Posted on May 20th, 2013

Postach.io is the blogging platform thats powered by your Evernote documents.

How It Works

Postach.io creates blog posts and pages from your notes. To create a post, write a note and tag it as "published" in this notebook. Then click the "Sync" button. Bam! Your note is published on your site, just like that!

Creating a page works the same, except you add an additional tag "page". This tells Postach.io to create your note as page instead of a post.

Updating a note is just as easy. Try making a change to this note, and click the "Sync" button. Visit your site, and you'll see its been updated.

To remove a note from your site, simply remove the "published" tag and re-sync. You could also delete the note itself. Its that easy!

What Can It Be Used For?

Postach.io can be used to create many variations of blog and documentation sites! Its only limited to your imagination! Here's some ideas to get you started.

  • A tumble blog of your life and adventures.
  • The internet needs more funny cat photos. Go!
  • Start a photo blog of your favourite places to eat, with a short review.
  • Documentation for your product or app.
  • Create a link blog of interesting articles.
  • Share your notebook with friends to make a collaborative wiki.
